What happens now?

You will be allocated to an Employment Consultant who will continue to work with you to look for suitable work. It is important to understand that this is a collaborative process and your full cooperation will be required. You will be guided by your consultant on job searching activities via a number of means including newspapers, the internet, cold canvassing and work trials. Your consultant will also help with resumes and job applications.

Your consultant will also be jobsearching and contacting various employers on your behalf to discuss with them jobs that you would like to do. You will be required to remain contactable and will meet regularly with your consultant to review and revise job searching activities as necessary. If it is determined that you may benefit from additional training then your consultant will arrange this for you.

Once potential work is found your consultant will seek clear information from the employer about what the job entails. We may even organise a work trial for you. The information we will get from the employer may include:

  • Starting and finishing time
  • Morning and Afternoon tea breaks
  • Lunch breaks
  • What you will need to wear to work
  • What the job actually involves
  • Ensuring you will receive Workers Compensation Cover from the employer
  • How much you will be paid
  • The Industrial Award or Australian Workplace Agreement you will be paid under
  • Holiday, sick days and other entitlements
  • Who your supervisor and work colleagues will be

You will be consulted regarding any jobs your consultant may find for you and your consultant will offer advice regarding any jobs you find. Your consultant will assist you to prepare for any job interviews and may accompany you to interviews if you require. It is important to remember that should you find work yourself and begin working at that job you will still be required to supply details to Work Venture when requested.

Hours and Pay

The choices range from full time, part time and casual depending on your choice of jobs and the vacancies that are available. You will be paid the Award rates according to the number of hours you work.

There is also scope within the Award for you to be paid under the Supported Wage System, which will allow employers to pay you a percentage of the Award rate of pay depending on how much of your job you are able to do. This is not a decision which is made by the employer but by an independent and approved assessor.

What happens to my Centrelink Payments?

When you commence a job you must notify Centrelink and tell them how much you are earning. This may result in you losing some or all of your income support payment depending on how much you are earning. If you have any concerns about your income support payment you should contact Centrelink. Work Venture, with your permission, can assist you with this.
