Graduation

Thirteen Ipswich jobseekers have enjoyed a double celebration today when they graduated from a government funded employment and training project.

The 13 women are among 30 who have taken part in a Productivity Places Program project being run by Work Venture.

Minister for Employment, Skills and Mining Stirling Hinchliffe said all 13 would celebrate their graduation from vocationally oriented courses that they’d undertaken over the past 14 weeks. “Ten of the women have completed a full Certificate II in Retail and three now have Certificate III qualifications in Community Services,” Mr Hinchliffe said. I congratulate them all on their successful completion of their studies."

“The Productivity Places Program is a joint initiative between the Australian, State and Territory Governments to help people complete full qualifications at levels ranging from Certificate II to Diploma. Jobseekers benefit in two ways – the places are fully funded, and participants can be assured that the skills area they’re training in is one that employers are seeking.

Work Venture's Managing Director, Alison McGrath, said the project participants came from a variety of backgrounds, including long-term unemployed, parents and carers wanting to return to the workforce. Apart from the formal training towards their certificate qualifications, the women also took part in our Evolve program which helps personal development,” Ms McGrath said.

“This component focuses on improving self-esteem, goal setting skills and confidence so they are better able to deal with any barriers, real or perceived, and clear the way to move into sustainable employment. Most of the women had not been in a classroom situation or the workforce for some time but they were all excited about their new opportunities. We will continue to provide post participation support over the coming months to help ensure the women not only move into jobs but are able to stay in the workforce.”

Kind Words........

" ......  I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the initial contact you made with me regarding the opportunity to employ someone with a disability through Work Venture Queensland. Having placed Steve into our workforce has been a positive experience and has opened up my eyes to the benefits, both financially for the business and personally for the employee. His enthusiasm for work  and reliability has been beyond reproach and we have also gained someone with skillsets relative to our business that can contribute and help our workforce achieve their goals.

I have appreciated the help and ongoing support we have received from your organisation and am proud of the diversity we now have in our workplace as it has promoted understanding and personal growth amongst all of our staff including myself. I think the most outstanding benefit though, is the positive difference that you can make to someone's life in giving them the opportunity to contribute and learn, and to pursue a career.

Once again thanks for the opportunity to employ Steve and thanks to Work Venture Queensland in providing a candidate so closely matched to what we required for our business. Truly a win win situation!"
